An Indianapolis attorney has been elected as the next district two representative of the Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission/Judicial Qualifications Commission.

James H. Young, a partner with Young & Young in Indianapolis, will fill a district two vacancy after Dec. 31, when attorney Lee Christie’s term expires. Young was elected representative by attorneys in Adams, Blackford, Carroll, Cass, Clinton, Delaware, Grant, Hamilton, Howard, Huntington, Jay, Madison, Marion, Miami, Tippecanoe, Tipton, Wabash, Wells and White counties.

As a member of the JNC/JQC, Young will aid in the recruitment and interviewing of applicants to fill appellate court vacancies and the investigations into allegations of judicial misconduct. At least one appellate court vacancy will likely be coming open next year as Justice Robert Rucker, the longest-serving current member of the Indiana Supreme Court, has said he plans to retire.

Young earned his undergraduate degree from Indiana University and his law degree from the IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 1981. He has served on the board of directors of the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association and has been a member of the American Association of Justice.

In addition to Lee and Young’s district two spot, the JNC/JQC is also composed of two other elected attorneys, Charlie Berger and John Feighner, and three members appointed by the governor, David Tinkey, Lynette Long and Rudy Yakym III. Chief Justice Loretta Rush chairs the commission.
