The Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law has announced a public memorial service to honor the life of one of its former deans.

The public memorial to honor the late Dean Emeritus and Carl M. Gray Professor of Law Emeritus William Harvey is set for April 8. The service for Harvey, who died Nov. 17, will begin at 1 p.m. at Second Presbyterian Church, 7700 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis.

Harvey, who was 84 when he died, joined the IU McKinney faculty in 1968 and served as dean from 1973 to 1979. After his retirement in 1996, the Indianapolis school established the William F. Harvey Endowed Scholarship in 1997 to benefit law students who demonstrate academic achievement and financial need.

Aside from his work with IU McKinney, Harvey authored 25 volumes on Indiana Civil Procedure and Evidence, more than 400 columns in the Journal of the Indiana State Bar Association, and was published in the Wall Street Journal, the National Review and the Journal of the American Medical Association.
