Along with summer come several opportunities with the Indianapolis Bar Association and Foundation. Check out details below and mark these deadlines on your calendar today!

Get on Board: Deadline July 1

The nomination period has begun for the 2018 Board of Directors of the Indianapolis Bar Association. Seven board positions are open, and all IndyBar attorney members are encouraged to consider board service as a unique opportunity for bar involvement.

Letters of interest or the nomination form found at indybar.org/board should be submitted by July 1, 2017. Letters of interest or nomination forms submitted to the nominating committee on your own behalf are encouraged, as well as nominations of colleagues.

The following vacancies currently exist for the coming year and must be filled by an attorney member:

1st Vice President (serves one-year term and will automatically assume the office of President-elect in 2019)

Treasurer (two-year term, 2018 and 2019)

At-Large Member of Board of Directors (five positions, each two-year terms, 2018 and 2019)

IndyBar members wishing to seek election outside the nominating process may file a petition ballot which is now available at the bar office. To be valid, the petition must be filed by July 1, 2017, and must contain the signatures of at least 50 attorney members of the Indianapolis Bar Association.

Motivate, Inspire and Lead: Deadline June 19

Realize your potential. Make a difference. Create impact. Be a Bar Leader.

The application period for the 2017-2018 Bar Leader Series is now open. The deadline to apply is June 19, 2017. Application materials and additional information on the series can be found at indybar.org/barleaderseries.

The Bar Leader Series is the IndyBar’s leadership development program for young attorneys. This fast-track series empowers participants to make the most of their innate talents, while emphasizing the importance of service to the community.

Committed to cultivating the next generation of leaders, the program was created in 2003 as the outgrowth of the IndyBar’s Task Force on Leadership Development and provides IndyBar member attorneys in their third to 10th year of practice with an opportunity to meet other attorneys in an environment where they can grow both professionally and personally. This program and these students are key to keeping the Bar’s leadership strong and maintaining the Bar’s value to the legal community into the future.

The series will begin with an ice breaker reception in August and a retreat at Waycross Camp and Conference Center in Southern Indiana Sept. 28-29, 2017. The series continues with monthly presentations for an entire afternoon for a nine-month period on a broad range of topics presented by local legal, political and business leaders. Class members will receive approximately 10 CLE credit hours during the nine-month series.

Fund the Future: Deadline June 28

The Indianapolis Bar Foundation (IBF) is now accepting applications through June 28 for the 2017 Impact Fund Grant. This annual grant of at least $35,000 will be awarded in early September 2017. The application form and additional information can be found at indybar.org/ibf.

The IBF Impact Fund serves as an important vehicle to facilitate the financial generosity of members of the Indianapolis Bar Association and the local legal community. Through the Impact Fund, the IBF seeks to invest substantial funds and association member participation in support of a project presented by a nonprofit organization that seeks to affect a significant positive impact in central Indiana.

The grant will be awarded to a nonprofit organization that presents an initiative that will advance the administration of justice and an understanding of the law through philanthropy, education and service.

The grant criteria include the following: the project must present an opportunity for association members to support the initiative by providing human resources; the project should be either a new venture or the significant supplementation of an existing service; the project should articulate a plan to be sustained by additional funding beyond that provided by the IBF; and the project should enhance public understanding and awareness of the legal profession.•
