Courts in 24 counties across Indiana will be allowing families and the media to photograph and videotape adoption proceedings this month as part of the National Adoption Day celebration.

In keeping with its annual tradition started in 2012, the Indiana Supreme Court has again authorized cameras in the courtrooms for uncontested adoptions. Families will be able to document the special occasion by snapping pictures and taking videos.

Since 2012, more than 500 children and their new families have participated. This year, the participating counties are expecting to have 220 children join their forever families. Scheduled events begin Friday in Clark County and continue until Nov. 27, when the final event is scheduled in DeKalb County. To find out the participating counties and schedules, click here. National Adoption Day, officially Nov. 18, is celebrated to increase awareness of the value of adoption. Many agencies, including the Department of Child Services, Court Appointed Special Advocates and the Children’s Bureau, along with local adoption agencies, will be involved in the events.
