Miami County considers wind farm restrictions

Miami County in northern Indiana is considering new restrictions that could hinder a proposed wind farm that would bring 75 power generating turbines to the area.

The Kokomo Tribune reported that hundreds of local residents packed into hearings held on the matter last Wednesday in Peru to voice their opposition to the project.

The county’s Planning and Building Commission is eyeing new rules that would prohibit a wind turbine from being located within 2,000 feet of property lines, roads, public lands and city limits.

Some officials cautioned that the restrictions would likely doom the project. That’s exactly what the opponents want.

They wore shirts and held signs urging county officials to “just say no” to wind turbines.
