The Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act at its annual conference Wednesday in Indianapolis.

The Indianapolis-based nonprofit will host its annual conference, Celebrating 50 Years of Fair Housing, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Marriott East hotel, 7202 E. 21st St. The conference will feature speakers, exhibits and workshops that have been approved for continuing legal education credit.

FHCCI’s annual conference is designed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act, which passed on April 11, 1968, and the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who was killed on April 4, 1968. Photos of King will be on display throughout the exhibits, as will historical news articles detailing housing conditions before the act was passed.

The conference’s luncheon will feature two keynote speakers: Anna Maria Farias, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development assistant secretary for fair housing and equal opportunity, and Kevin Boyle, author of “Arc of Justice: A Saga of Race, Civil Rights and Murder in the Jazz Age.” Prior to those lectures, three workshop sessions offered in the morning will cover topics such as a fair housing disability case law update, a review of sexual harassment in housing, and LGBTQ+ fair housing rights, among others.

Registration for the annual conference will begin at 8 a.m. Wednesday, and all events will conclude at 3:30 p.m. More information about the event is available here.
