State warns of fake insurance firm, issues cease and desist order

A cease and desist order has been issued against a company not licensed to sell insurance or conduct business in Indiana, according to the Indiana Department of Insurance.

Commissioner Stephen W. Robertson issued the order Friday against Assurance Protection Group. The company has been barred from selling, soliciting, and negotiating insurance in Indiana without a license, according to Jenifer Groth, director of communication and outreach.

The company does not hold a certificate of authority, producer’s license or any other authorization from the department to engage in the insurance business in Indiana, according to the department.

A complaint was recently filed with the department against APG by an Indiana consumer who alleged to have purchased automobile insurance from the company.

The consumer had found a number to call through an internet search for low automobile insurance rates.

When called, the consumer was referred to the Assurance Protection Group to purchase an insurance policy. When a loss was subsequently suffered due to a collision and the consumer attempted to make an insurance claim, the company was found to be unreachable and the policy fraudulent.
