For the third time in recent months, Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb will select a nominee to appoint as the newest Lake County Superior Court judge.

Under the leadership of Indiana Supreme Court Justice Geoffrey Slaughter, the Lake County Judicial Nominating Commission publicly interviewed 10 candidates for the judgeship vacancy, ultimately selecting Kristen D. Hill, Kristina Kantar and Adam J. Sedia on Monday as its three nominees.

The vacancy in the Lake Superior Court arose in February, when Judge Diane Kavadias Schneider announced her retirement. The three finalists seeking to replace her will be submitted to Gov. Holcomb for selection. He has 60 days after receiving written evaluations of the finalists to make the appointment to the bench.

Last month, Holcomb appointed prosecuting attorney Aleksandra Dimitrijevic to fill another Lake Superior Court vacancy left by Judge Jesse M. Villalpando’s retirement. Holcomb also appointed then-Magistrate Judge Thomas P. Hallett in December 2018 to fill a vacancy on the Lake Superior Court created last summer when Holcomb appointed Judge Elizabeth Tavitas to the Indiana Court of Appeals.
