ISBA members approve judges up for retention

October 15, 2008

The five Indiana judges up for retention this November have received overwhelming support from Indiana State Bar Association members. The ISBA poll shows no judge or justice received less than 83 percent of "yes" votes for retention.

Of the ISBA members who responded, 83.3 percent voted to retain Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard, 90.3 percent voted to retain Justice Theodore Boehm, 88.6 percent voted to retain Justice Brent Dickson, 87.2 percent voted to retain Indiana Court of Appeals Judge Carr Darden, and 88 percent voted to retain Indiana Tax Judge Thomas Fisher.

This poll is the first time ISBA members were surveyed electronically. Of the 8,058 members polled, nearly 1,500 cast ballots. Appellate court judges face an approval vote in the first general election that occurs at least two years after their appointment, and every 10 years after that. Residents will vote Nov. 4 whether to retain these five judges.
