Valpo law dean to visit Republic of Georgia

July 10, 2008

The dean of Valparaiso University's School of Law will travel to the Republic of Georgia next week to help the country begin a major reform of its legal system during a two-day conference. Dean Jay Conison will play a consultative role in a gathering of the country's attorneys, judges, and legal educators.

During the July 18 and 19 conference, "Legal Education: The Cornerstone of an Independent Judiciary and Skilled Legal Profession," Conison will discuss legal education and the development of an accreditation system for Georgia's law schools.

Conison serves as the vice chair of the American Bar Association committee responsible for American law school accreditation.

Conference organizers, which include the ABA's Rule of Law Initiative and the U.S. Agency for International Development, hope the conference will encourage law professors, judges, and attorneys to work together to improve legal education in the Republic of Georgia.
