The LaPorte Superior judge suspended for asking a law enforcement officer to destroy potential evidence in her accidental
shooting returned to the bench today.
Judge Jennifer Evans Koethe completed her 60-day suspension without pay that was handed down by the Indiana Supreme Court
March 12 and was automatically reinstated this morning.
She was charged by the Indiana Commission on Judicial Qualifications with violating the 2008 Judicial Code of Conduct and
Rules of Professional Conduct for withholding or misrepresenting pertinent information during taped statements with officials
and for asking a law enforcement officer to destroy a note she had written. Judge Koethe wrote the note to her husband the
night she was accidentally shot in December 2008.
The judge was charged with Class D felony attempted obstruction of justice and automatically suspended with pay per Indiana
Admission and Discipline Rule 25(V)(A). Judge Koethe was acquitted on the charge in January.
