The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana is accepting applications for a new magistrate position recently approved by the Judicial Conference. A notice published Oct. 6 says that all applications must be received or postmarked by Nov. 3.

Once those applications are received, a merit-selection panel will review and interview the applicants and determine which five finalists to recommend for consideration by the District judges.

Whoever is chosen will begin April 1, 2011. The current annual salary for the position is $160,080 and has a term of eight years. Those interested in applying can get application forms and information from District Court Clerk Laura Briggs or from the court’s website at www.insd.uscourts.gov.
