Weather causes closures, cancellations

February 1, 2011

The ice and snow falling in central Indiana has led to cancellations of two court events and closed the Indiana General Assembly.

The United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana has postponed its Black History Month event scheduled for Wednesday because of the inclement weather and travel disruptions. The featured speaker is 7th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Ann Claire Williams. Doria Lynch with the Southern District said the Black History Month Committee is working on securing a new date and will announce it when the event is rescheduled.

The Indiana Supreme Court’s “Bound for Freedom: the Case of Polly Strong” program set for Thursday has also been postponed. Kathryn Dolan, Supreme Court public information officer, said the court is concerned that there’s a chance schools could be delayed Thursday, which would create bus problems. Also, the actress portraying Polly Strong lives outside of Marion County and could have difficulties traveling Thursday. The court has not announced the new date for the program as of IL deadline.

The weather has also cancelled all committee meetings and sessions scheduled today in the Indiana House of Representatives and Indiana Senate.
