Group to assess Indiana’s civic engagement

  • Print

Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard and former Congressman Lee Hamilton are teaming up with the Indiana Bar Foundation and the National Conference on Citizenship to commission an analysis of civic engagement in Indiana. The National Conference on Citizenship will analyze data specific to Indiana, such as census information, to assess and create the Indiana Civil Health Index.

National data shows that only one in three Americans can name the three branches of government, and local officials believe the same lack of civic knowledge could be true for Hoosiers. The chief justice and others involved in the Indiana Civil Health Index will discuss the project at 1:30 p.m. April 19 in the Indiana Supreme Court Courtroom.
