Mexican officials visit law school

September 9, 2011

Eduardo Arnal Palomera, Mexican Consul General in Chicago, and Alberto Foncerrada Berumen, of the Chicago Mexican Consulate Office of Relations with Local Governments, visited Valparaiso University and Valparaiso University Law School on Aug. 31 to talk with students and university leaders.

Palomera met with several university officials, including law school Dean Jay Conison, and with members of the Latino Law Student Association to discuss changes in Mexico brought about by a new generation of young leaders. Several law students talked about their connections to Mexico and their interests in both immigration law and international law.

Palomera was appointed Chicago Mexican Consul General in March 2011 and assumed his responsibilities on May 16. He plans to visit the 128 counties in his jurisdiction to find out what matters most to Mexican residents in those counties. In his role, Palomera provides services to the Mexican population of Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin – nearly 3 million people.
