Indiana Tax Judge Martha Blood Wentworth has been appointed by the Indiana Supreme Court as chair of the Indiana Pro Bono Commission. Allen Superior Judge David Avery has been appointed vice-chair, the Supreme Court announced Monday.
Wentworth takes over as chair from Indiana Court of Appeals Judge Melissa May, who had extended her time on the commission beyond her three-year term. May’s term officially expired June 30.
The commission – a project of the Indiana Bar Foundation – consists of 21 members appointed by the Indiana Supreme Court and bar foundation. Its mission is to promote equal access to justice for all Indiana residents and promote and support pro bono work by attorneys.
“Under the leadership of Judge Wentworth and Judge Avery, I am confident that the Commission not only will continue its splendid work in supporting Hoosier lawyers’ generous pro bono work but also will explore innovative approaches to enhance attorney participation,” said Chief Justice Brent E. Dickson.
Wentworth and Avery will each serve a three-year term.
