Human trafficking bill goes to full Senate

February 6, 2013

A bill to strengthen the state’s human trafficking law – which was passed last year in anticipation of Indianapolis hosting the Super Bowl, has made it out of committee.

Senate Bill 509, authored by Sen. John Waterman, R-Shelburn, builds on the current law that makes it illegal to arrange for a person to participate in any forced sexual act or to arrange for someone younger than 16 to participate in any sexual act. The bill increases the age of protection to age 18.

SB 509 now goes before the full Senate for consideration.
