The St. Joseph Superior Court Judicial Nominating Commission meets Monday to conduct interviews of applicants to fill a vacancy on the court due to Judge Michael P. Scopelitis’ retirement.

The interviews begin at 10 a.m. and will be held in the St. Joseph County-City Building. Names of the applicants have not been released based on provisions in Indiana Code 33-33-71-38, but the interviews are open to the public.

The commission will nominate five candidates for appointment to the court. Gov. Mike Pence will choose the person to replace Scopelitis, who is retiring June 3.

This is the second vacancy to open up on the court. Judge Roland W. Chamblee retires March 31. Pence has yet to name Chamblee’s successor.
