Former U.S. attorney, Superior judge dies

Retired Judge Alfred W. Moellering of Fort Wayne died Sunday at the age of 86. He was a longtime Superior Court judge in Allen County.

Moellering spent 20 years on the state court bench, retiring in 1991. Prior to becoming a judge, President John F. Kennedy appointed him as U.S. attorney for the Northeast Indiana District in 1962, a position he held until 1970.

Moellering was a World War II Army veteran and 1953 graduate of Indiana University School of Law.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter Caroline Moellering; son David (Linda) Moellering; several grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; and step-great-granddaughter.

Visitation is Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne. The funeral service is at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
