Indiana appellate courts and the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals are extending the Independence Day holiday to a four-day weekend.

Indiana’s Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Tax Court and all related agencies will be closed July 4 and 5. Filing deadlines set for those two days for any Supreme Court, Court of Appeals or Tax Court matter will be moved to the next business day the office is open, July 8.

“The day is being given in appreciation for the hard work and dedication exhibited by the courts’ employees during the first half of 2013 and in recognition of the fact that the courts’ employees are to receive two fewer holidays in 2013 than they normally enjoy,” stated Chief Justice Brent Dickson.

The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals will also be closed Thursday and Friday. Filing due dates have been moved to July 8 as well.

Among the federal district courts, the District Court for the Northern District of Indiana will be closed Thursday and Friday. However, the District Court for Southern District of Indiana will only be closed on Thursday and reopen on Friday.
