The Indiana General Assembly will mark the official start of the 2014 legislative session with Organization Day on Nov. 19.

Traditionally held on the third Tuesday after the first Monday in November, Organization Day is a ceremonial day where new members can be swore in and House of Representative members may begin filing bills. Senate members were able to begin filing bills in October.

Speaker of the House Brian Bosma has set the House session to begin at 1 p.m. At that time, Bosma will outline his goals and priorities for the upcoming session. Also, House members will pay special tribute to the late Phyllis Pond, the longest-serving female legislator in the Indiana General Assembly.

Bosma has chosen the Special Olympics of Indiana to be the designated charity for Organization Day. All state office holders will be invited to make donations and meet the athletes at the statehouse.

The Indiana Senate will convene at 1:30 p.m.

The 2014 legislative session will reconvene at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 7.
