Court makes available resources for Constitution Day

August 26, 2014

The importance of juries and how people are chosen to serve will be at the heart of discussions between students and judges as the judiciary teams up with schools to mark Constitution Day Sept. 17.

The date commemorates the signing of the United States Constitution in 1787 in Philadelphia, and this year marks the 10th anniversary of the celebration that began in 2005 with activities in classrooms and courthouses around the state.

This year, the Community Relations Committee of the Indiana Judicial Conference and the Supreme Court’s Courts in the Classroom  initiative have developed activities available online  geared toward students in grades 6-12. Program plans and materials for teachers and judges are available for basic Constitution discussion or extended discussions that also include simulated jury selection.
