Indiana Chief Justice Loretta Rush has approved still photography, video and audio coverage of uncontested adoption proceedings in honor of National Adoption Day Nov. 22.

The order is not unprecedented; the Supreme Court has authorized media coverage in recent years in order to raise awareness of the children in foster care waiting to find permanent adoptive families.

Trial judges performing uncontested adoptions can give their consent and express willingness to participate by registering through the Supreme Court’s Office of Communication, Education and Outreach. The order does not authorize public access to the documents and records of the proceeding.
