A part-time magistrate position has become available in the New Albany location of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, thanks to authorization from the Judicial Conference of the United States.

The part-time magistrate, who is expected to make around $15,000 a year, will conduct most preliminary proceedings in criminal cases, trial and disposition of misdemeanor cases, and conduct various pretrial matters and evidentiary proceedings on delegation from a District judge.

Applications are due by Dec. 1 and must be mailed and emailed. All applications will be kept confidential, unless the applicant consents to disclosure. A merit-selection panel will interview candidates and recommend five individuals, of which one will be appointed magistrate by the District Court.

More information is available on the court’s website.
