EidtPerspLucas-sigCongratulations to our 2015 Leadership in Law Distinguished Barristers and Up and Coming Lawyers! This year’s group comprises an exceptional representation of legal talent, and Indiana Lawyer is pleased to have the opportunity to honor their work. (See the list of honorees.)

Those familiar with the Leadership in Law awards may recognize that we are doing things a bit differently this year. Rather than waiting until the award magazine is published in our May 6 issue, following our award presentation, we are announcing our honorees now and inviting the entire legal community to celebrate their accomplishments with us.

Expediting the announcement improves our ability to recognize these lawyers in a meaningful way. Over the years, I’ve heard from many of you who were interested in attending our private award reception to support your colleagues who are being honored. We’ve listened, and this year we are opening the event to the legal community. Information about tickets is on our website at www.theindianalawyer.com.

While the period surrounding our Leadership in Law awards is one of our most hectic times of year, it is also one of my favorite. So often, the business of news reporting is a double-edged sword. Publishing the newspaper provides the opportunity to shine a light on inspiring developments within the legal profession, but it also carries the responsibility to discuss shortcomings or negative issues that some would prefer were left unsaid.

But these awards are a pure positive. We hear from you, our readers, about the many outstanding lawyers who you believe are deserving of the titles Distinguished Barrister or Up and Coming Lawyer, and we get to share your inspiring stories with lawyers throughout the state. If I do have one regret associated with this award, it is that when the selection process closes, we inevitably have very deserving nominations left on the table.

I am even more excited this year because Indiana Lawyer is celebrating its 10th year of Leadership in Law awards as well as its 25th anniversary as a legal publication. At our May 5 event, in addition to recognizing our 2015 award honorees, we’ll take a brief walk down memory lane and embrace the opportunity to thank some of those who’ve helped the newspaper become what it is today.

I hope that you will consider joining us May 5 to celebrate and congratulate this group of young lawyers and seasoned professionals who are making their mark on Indiana’s legal landscape. As always, contact me at any time for more information.•
