In conjunction with its holiday party, the association will be holding a bone marrow drive to add potential donors to the national registry. The party will begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the home of Richard Hailey. To RSVP and for more information email [email protected].
The idea to include the drive with the party came from MCBA President Terrence Tharpe. He joined the registry and was called earlier this year after he was found to match a patient in need of a bone marrow transplant.
Providing a sample for the registry is simple and painless. A couple of swabs will be taken from the inside of each donor’s cheek.
The MCBA is hoping to add 50 new potential donors to the registry during the party. Association president-elect Roxana Bell noted matches are especially hard to find for African-Americans.
