The Indianapolis Bar Association is proud to recognize Cheryl Keene of Cohen & Malad LLP as the association’s Paralegal of the Year for 2016. Keene will be recognized for the honor at the IndyBar Paralegal Appreciation Luncheon, to be held Thursday, June 2 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Conrad Indianapolis Hotel. Show your support for the incredible paralegals in the Indianapolis legal community by registering for the luncheon at indybar.org/events.

Keene is an active member of the Indianapolis Bar Association. She is heavily involved in the Paralegal Committee’s annual Teddy Bear Challenge, which is held each December and provides the Marion County Sherriff’s Office, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the Indianapolis Fire Department and local EMS with donated stuffed animals to give to children in tough situations. For the past several years, Keene has personally crocheted dozens of stuffed animals for the cause and has been recognized by the Sherriff’s department for her contributions.

In addition to her work as a paralegal, Keene has served 25 years as a registered nurse and has been primarily involved in her firm’s medical malpractice team. In the past, she represented 280 malpractice victims in litigation cases which eventually settled for a $59 million global settlement. Currently, she serves in a leadership role on the team.

“Cheryl is a talented and dedicated paralegal who works hard because she wants to help others and will often shy away from personal recognition. However, she could not be more deserving of the honor of being named Paralegal of the Year,” notes Cohen & Malad LLP attorney David Cutshaw. •
