Senior judge appointed part time to Pulaski Superior Court

May 19, 2017

A Pulaski County senior judge has been appointed to replace a former Superior Court judge in the county on a part-time basis as the search for the judge’s permanent replacement continues.

Senior Judge Douglas B. Morton will begin serving as the Pulaski Superior Court judge pro tempore Thursday, filling that role only part-time as the Indiana Supreme Court determined the court’s weighted caseload does not warrant a full-time replacement. The senior judge will replace former Judge Patrick B. Blankenship, who resigned from the Pulaski Superior Court on April 3.

After Blankenship’s resignation, Pulaski Circuit Judge Michael A. Shurn was temporarily transferred to replace Blankenship. The Pulaski Superior Court was also allotted 60 senior-judge service days for calendar year 2017 in a March order.

Morton will now take over for Shurn on a part-time basis until a permanent successor is appointed or until further order of the court. The Thursday order also calls for Morton to be compensated at 60 percent of the salary a regular judge would receive.
