More than 636,000 Indiana residents have registered to vote for the first time or updated their voter registration records so far in 2008. According to the Indiana Secretary of State's Web site, Indiana has nearly 4.4 million registered voters, based on information last updated Sept. 27.

The last day to register to vote is Oct. 6. Anyone unsure of the status of his or her registration or polling place can visit www.indianavoters.com or call (866) 461-8683. If information is incorrect, residents will need to contact their county clerk or board of voter registration. Voters also can use the site to find information about the option to vote absentee-in person beginning 29 days before Election Day, Nov. 4, or by mail if eligible.
