An Anderson attorney involved in an auto accident Saturday evening in southern Madison County has died. Robert Cowles and his wife Sally were riding on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle on State Road 13 when they were hit head on by a SUV.

Madison County Sheriff Ron Richardson said the driver of the SUV didn't see the motorcycle because it was behind another car making a right turn to get onto Interstate 69. The driver of the SUV was making a left turn onto the same ramp.

Richardson said the Cowleses were not wearing helmets and were ejected from the motorcycle. At the scene, Robert was talking to emergency personnel. Both were airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where Robert died Sunday morning. The Marion County Coroner determined Robert died of blunt force trauma. Richardson said he was last updated on Sally's condition yesterday morning and she was still in critical condition.
