Dearborn Superior Judge G. Michael Witte will receive the 2008 Indiana University Asian Alumni Association's Distinguished Asian Pacific American Alumni Award, which recognizes outstanding professional achievements and community service of Asian Pacific American Alumni of the school.

Judge Witte is the first Asian-American trial judge to be elected in Indiana. The judge is also a nationally recognized expert on highway traffic safety legal issues. He is vice chair of the judicial division of the American Bar Association and will become its chairman in 2011.

The judge will receive his award at a dinner celebrating the 10th anniversary of the IU Asian Culture Center at 7 p.m. Oct. 3, in Alumni Hall in the IU Memorial Union, Bloomington. The event is open to the public, but requires advanced tickets, which can be purchased online.
