paralegal proclamationAs one lawyer remarked, “Wouldn’t it be
great to have a job when you can proclaim a day to be anything you want it to be?” Well, Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels
and Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard each have that type of job and both proclaimed May 20, 2010 “Paralegal Appreciation
Day”.

Noting that “paralegals make an essential contribution to the legal profession by providing high-quality services and
performing legal work previously done by attorneys”, Mayor Ballard acknowledged the vital role of paralegals. “IBA
paralegals are also committed to excellence and professionalism as they demonstrate a high level of achievement and responsibility
and adhere to a strict code of ethics,” he wrote.

Governor Daniels echoed similar statements adding, “Paralegals help to make our legal system more cost-efficient and
accessible to the public.”

The proclamations were offered at the Indianapolis Bar Association Paralegal Appreciation Luncheon before a sellout crowd.
The event was further highlighted by the presentation of the Paralegal of the Year Award to Mary Myers of Kroger Gardis &
Regas.
