Mark Massa, the Republican candidate for Marion County prosecutor, is the new chairman of the Alcohol & Tobacco Commission. Gov. Mitch Daniels announced the appointment Thursday.

Massa was Gov. Daniel’s general counsel from 2006 until this year when he resigned to run for prosecutor. He practiced with the Indianapolis law firm Riley Bennett & Egloff as of counsel, and served as a law clerk to Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard, an assistant U.S. Attorney, and the chief counsel in the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

He takes over Dec. 13 as head of the ATC from Alex Huskey, who has served as interim chair since former Wayne County Judge P. Thomas Snow resigned in November. Huskey will return to his role as superintendent of the Indiana Excise Police.
