Governor appoints Rush to Supreme Court

Gov. Mitch Daniels has selected Tippecanoe Superior Judge Loretta Rush to sit on the Indiana Supreme Court. Rush is the second woman to serve on the state's highest court.

The other finalists were Hamilton Superior Judge Steve Nation and attorney Geoffrey Slaughter.

Rush will replace Justice Frank Sullivan Jr., who retired from the court July 31 to teach at Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. She joins Myra Selby as the only female to ever serve as a justice in Indiana. Selby served on the Supreme Court from 1995 to 1999.

The other semifinalists were:  Hon. Cale J. Bradford, Indiana Court of Appeals. Hon. Frances M. Gull, Allen Superior Court;  Ms. Erin Reilly Lewis, Indianapolis;  Ms. Andrielle M. Metzel, Indianapolis;  Hon. Marianne L. Vorhees, Delaware Circuit Court 1;  Hon. Mary G. Willis, Henry Circuit Court 1; and Mr. John P. Young, Indianapolis.
