Parr Richey plans helmet giveaway, bike safety event

March 12, 2013

A Lebanon law firm will give away kids’ bike helmets at an April event promoting bike safety and healthy lifestyles.

Parr Richey Obremskey Frandsen & Patterson will present the third annual “PedalPalooza” as part of the nationwide YMCA Healthy Kids Day on April 27 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Witham Family YMCA in Lebanon. The free event will be open to the public.

To promote bike safety, members of Parr Richey’s staff will pass out 200 free children’s bicycle helmets and bike reflectors, and will give away one boy’s bicycle and one girl’s bicycle at their “PedalPalooza” booth.

“We’re thrilled that PedalPalooza has become an annual event. It was a huge success last year and we are expecting even bigger crowds this time around,” Paul Kruse, partner at Parr Richey and past president of Witham Family YMCA board of directors, said in a news release. “It’s critical that every child wear a bike helmet. This is our way to promote bike safety awareness and have fun at the same time.”

Bicycle safety is an area of concern for Parr Richey as over half a million bicyclists visit emergency rooms across the country with bicycling injuries every year, and over 1,000 bicyclists are killed annually. Experts say head injuries are the leading cause of death and the biggest factor in permanent injuries resulting from bicycling, and that wearing a helmet is the most effective precaution to reduce the likelihood of head injuries and deaths from bike crashes.

Parr Richey, a personal injury firm, has offices in Lebanon and Indianapolis.
