Ex-IMPD officer pleads guilty to drunken driving

February 12, 2014

Former Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officer David Bisard has pleaded guilty to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated as a Class A misdemeanor. The sentence will be served consecutively to the 16-year sentence he is currently serving for a 2010 crash that killed one motorcyclist and injured two others.

Bisard was sentenced Wednesday to serve one year suspended and one year of probation during which he is ordered to undergo treatment and alcohol monitoring. The plea stems from an arrest in April 2013 after the vehicle he was driving crashed into a guardrail.

Bisard initially pleaded not guilty in May 2013 to the OWI charge.

At the time of his arrest, Bisard was out on bond pending trial on charges related to the 2010 accident. Bisard was found guilty last year on nine counts stemming from the fatal accident that killed Eric Wells and injured Mary Mills and Kurt Weekly. He was sentenced to 16 years with three suspended.
