New Associations

Halbig has joined as of counsel, where she will focus on representing clients before the Indiana General Assembly and regulatory agencies at the state and local level. Melissa A. Gardner, Julian E. Robyn L. Moberly and James M. Carr have been appointed to 14-year terms as bankruptcy judges on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. Moberly previously was a judge in Marion Superior Court and took office Nov. 1; Carr is a partner at Faegre Baker Daniels LLP and joins the court Jan. 1.

Greg Bokota has been promoted to managing partner of Garan Lucow Miller P.C.’s Merrillville office.

Appointments & Elections
Wagner Reese LLP partner Jason R. Reese has been elected to the board of directors of the Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic.

Bose McKinney and Evans LLP of counsel attorney Jonathan Mayes has been appointed by Gov. Mitch Daniels as a commissioner with the State Employees’ Appeals Commission.

R.J. McConnell, partner at Bose McKinney & Evans LLP, has been named to the board of directors of the Indy Partnership, central Indiana’s regional economic development group.

Bose McKinney & Evans LLP partner Greg Hahn has been appointed to the Indianapolis Public Transportation Corporation board of directors.

Heather Louise Smith, deputy clerk of the Indiana Supreme Court, Court of Appeals and Tax Court, has been elected to the executive committee of the National Conference of Appellate Court Clerks.

Lewis Wagner associate Edward Fujawa has joined INDYCOG’s board of directors. The nonprofit promotes cycling within Indianapolis.

Indiana Farm Bureau staff attorney Justin Schneider has been elected to the board of directors of the American Agricultural Law Association.

Amie Peele Carter has been elected to a three-year term on the board of directors for the American Intellectual Property Law Association. Carter is a partner at Faegre Baker Daniels LLP in Indianapolis.

Awards & Honors
John V. Barnett Jr. has received the 2012 Allen C. Steere Award from the Governmental Affairs Society of Indiana, established by Lincoln Financial Group. Barnett recently retired from Bose Public Affairs Group LLC as a senior vice president.

Nick Deets, partner at Hovde Dassow & Deets LLC in Indianapolis, has been inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers.

Tamara McMillian, of counsel at Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP in Indianapolis, has been named a “20 under 40” attorney of 2012 by Just The Beginning Foundation. The foundation honors 20 young attorneys around the country who exemplify their mission of providing pipeline programs directly aimed at increasing diversity in the legal profession.

The Lilly Endowment, under the leadership of former Baker & Daniels partner Thomas M. Lofton, received the August M. Watanabe Life Sciences Champion of the Year Award from BioCrossroads.

Edna M. Wallace, RP, a paralegal at Whitham Hebenstreit & Zubek LLP in Indianapolis, has received the 2012 National Federation of Paralegal Associations’ Honorable William R. Robie Award. The award goes to a member who is dedicated to the paralegal profession, the expansion of the delivery of legal services, and equal access to justice.

Tauber Law Offices, a full-service law firm, has opened in Schererville. Family members Rhett L. Tauber, Tara Tauber and Jared Tauber are partners.
