Rokita is asking the Indiana Board of Pharmacy to suspend the registration for Dr. Patrick Sheets of Rensselaer due to allegations of “unsafe prescribing practices and serious violations of medical standards.”
In a news release Wednesday, Rokita’s office said Sheets’ actions “present a clear and immediate danger to public health and safety.”
Rokita’s office said it has received multiple consumer complaints over the past several months alleging “dangerous prescribing habits” by Sheets, including prescribing controlled substances such as alprazolam to a patient with known substance abuse issues without proper evaluations, improperly securing a controlled substance key fob, and falsifying medical records.
Last month, the FBI and DEA raiding Sheets’ office and other locations, and the Jasper County Health Department closed his practice due to a lack of running water, sewage and electricity, according to the petition.
Inside INdiana Business was unable to reach Sheets for comment on Wednesday.
Rokita’s office will present its petition to the Indiana Board of Pharmacy at its July 14 meeting. The petition seeks to suspend Sheets’ CSR for up to 90 days while further investigations continue.
