Marion County deputy prosecutor fired

January 7, 2011

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office has fired the deputy prosecutor arrested Jan. 2 for her involvement in a disturbance in an Indianapolis apartment.

Kirmille Welbon, 28, was arrested on charges of residential entry, battery with injury, and criminal trespass after entering the apartment of a man she was allegedly having an affair with and attacking the man’s wife. Welbon showed up at the apartment of Devann and Kiewanin Johnson late Sunday night demanding to be let in so she could get some of the items she bought for Devann, according to the police report. Kiewanin told Welbon to leave and claims Welbon grabbed her by the hair and began fighting with her in the apartment.

When the prosecutor’s office became aware of her arrest Monday morning, she was immediately suspended without pay, said Laurel Judkins, chief counsel in the office. Because of her employment with the prosecutor’s office, a special prosecutor – Barry Brown of Monroe County – has been appointed to the case.

Brown formally filed charges Thursday morning of Class D felony residential entry, and Class A misdemeanors battery with injury and criminal trespass. The prosecutor’s office terminated her employment after the charges were filed, Judkins said.

Welbon had worked in the prosecutor’s office since August 2009.
