Joshua Minkler, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, is among nine federal prosecutors appointed to serve a two-year term on the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee of U.S. Attorneys, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Monday.

“I am honored and privileged to be selected by Attorney General (Jeff) Sessions to serve on his Advisory Committee,” said Minkler. “I am looking forward to implementing the priorities of the Department of Justice and reducing violent crime in our local communities.”

AGAC was created in 1973 and reports to Sessions through the Deputy Attorney General. AGAC provides advice and counsel to the Attorney General on matters of policy, procedure, and management impacting the Offices of the U.S. Attorneys.

“I am pleased to announce the first members of the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee under this administration. These U.S. Attorneys will play an important role in carrying out the Department of Justice’s mission to reduce violent crime, combat transnational crimination organizations, secure our southern border, end the devastating opioid crisis, and return to the rule of law,” said Sessions.

Minkler has served nearly 25 years in the Southern Indiana U.S. Attorney’s office. He was an Assistant U.S. Attorney for 21 years before being named interim U.S. Attorney in June 2015 after former U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett stepped down to run for mayor of Indianapolis. The Senate confirmed Minkler to his current position in October.

A graduate of Indiana University Maurer School of Law, Minkler was an assistant prosecuting attorney for five years in the Office of the Kent County, Michigan, Prosecuting Attorney before joining the U.S. Attorney’s office.

The other new appointees to AGAC are: U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama Richard Moore; U.S. Attorney for the District of Utah John W. Huber; U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jessie K. Liu; U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio Justin E. Herdman; U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina Robert Higdon; U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Oklahoma Trent Shores; U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri Jeff Jensen; and Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Alaska Bryan Schroder.

Moore will serve as the chair of AGAC, and Huber will serve as the vice chair.
