A St. Joseph County lab assistant has been fired after he was arrested on suspicion of selling clean urine to people on probation who are subject to drug testing, the county courts said in a statement.

Raymontow Davis was fired after his arrest Tuesday, the St. Joseph Circuit Court said in a press release Thursday afternoon, clarifying an Associated Press report regarding Davis’ prior employment. Davis “was employed as a laboratory assistant, never as a probation officer, for the Adult Probation Department,” the court said in a statement. The probation department and all its divisions are supervised by the circuit court.

“The Adult Probation Department will continue to cooperate with the Prosecutor’s Office regarding this matter and the investigation of any cases in which this individual may have been involved,” the statement said.

Prosecutors allege Davis promised people on probation with St. Joseph County’s adult probation department that he would provide them with clean urine drug screenings in exchange for $150.

Court documents say Davis solicited money through calls and texts. An informant told investigators people on probation would bring Davis the money and a condom filled with clean urine.

Davis, 34, was charged Wednesday with bribery and official misconduct. Online court records show Davis was released on recognizance after an initial hearing Thursday and was ordered to return to court for a hearing Thursday, Sept. 5.

Prosecutors will review all the cases Davis may have allegedly affected during his eight months as a probation department employee.
