Two prosecutors have been tapped by Gov. Eric Holcomb to fill a pair of judicial vacancies including one to the brand-new court in Marshall County.

April Drake, chief deputy in the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, has been appointed as Wayne Circuit Court judge and Matthew Sarber, deputy prosecutor with the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office, will be the judge of the new Marshall Superior Court 3 which begins July 1.

The Indiana General Assembly authorized the creation of an additional court in Marshall County with the passage of Senate Enrolled Act 256 in 2020. According to WYMR 98.3 FM, the new superior court was needed to move cases along to help reduce the jail population.

Sarber is a graduate of Manchester University and Valparaiso Law School. Prior to joining the prosecutor’s office, he served as a public defender in Marshall County and worked in private practice.

Drake graduated from Georgetown College in Kentucky and Indiana University Maurer School of Law. She joined the prosecutor’s office in 2011 as deputy prosecutor and became chief deputy in 2016. She previously worked as a public defender and in private practice.

Both Sarber and Drake will be sworn in on dates to be determined, according to the governor’s office.
