Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard is heading an Indiana delegation that will attend the American Bar Association's national summit to foster cooperation and communication among the three branches of state government.
"Justice is the Business of Government" will build strategies to break down tension between state government branches that impede on their ability to deliver on public expectations of justice. It will also help participants develop responses to challenges relating to the justice system, including costs of incarceration, mental health intervention, and how to get adequate resources during both improving and declining economies.
Justice Frank Sullivan, Attorney General Greg Zoeller, Lake Circuit Judge Lorenzo Arredondo, Sen. Brent Steele, and Indiana State Bar Association president Bill Jonas, along with other representatives from Indiana government and organizations, will make up the state's delegation.
The National Summit on the Critical Role of Fair and Impartial State Courts will be held May 7-9 in Charlotte, N.C. More information can be found on the ABA's Web site.
