A Delaware County jury has convicted a 24-year-old man of conspiracy to commit burglary with a deadly weapon and killing a domestic animal on Thursday.

Delaware Circuit Court Judge Thomas Cannon set Quintin Kennedy’s sentencing date for Sept. 2. Kennedy was convicted of five counts, including a Level 2 felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

Kennedy was convicted of conspiracy to commit burglary while armed with a deadly weapon, intimidation, domestic battery by means of a deadly weapon, criminal recklessness and killing a domestic animal.

The Delaware County prosecuting attorney’s office announced the conviction Thursday.

According to court documents, Muncie police officers responded to a residential burglary call involving three male subjects on July 25, 2022. According to a witness in the case, Kennedy and another male entered the residence where one subject began to batter his estranged wife while Kennedy stood by in the kitchen area.

The witness said that after the woman’s dog started barking, Kennedy shot the dog inside the home. Kennedy fled the scene shortly after.

He was arrested by Muncie police two days later.

“Domestic violence is a very serious problem in our society,” said Eric Hoffman, prosecuting attorney for Delaware County, in his announcement. “As if conspiring to break and enter a person’s house to batter someone isn’t bad enough, this Defendant took his violent acts a step further by shooting and killing a dog.”

The case is 18C05-2208-F2-000023.
