Updated Indiana Trial Court Administration Manual Available

The 2010 Indiana Trial Court Administration Manual is now available online at www.in.gov/judiciary/admin. All chapters of the manual were updated on July 19, 2010, and three chapters were added: Transfer and venue, Mental Health Adjudication Reporting and Criminal Case Judgments and Report of Case Disposition.

Plain English Jury Instructions Now on LexisNexis

The Indiana Model Civil Jury Instructions, written in plain English, are now available through LexisNexis. The new instructions were prepared by the Civil Instructions Committee of the Indiana Judges Association (IJA). The instructions are currently only available through LexisNexis to those with a Lexis.com subscription. In late August or early September the instructions will also be available in book format to Lexis subscribers and at law libraries that carry the book, such as the Indiana Supreme Court library. Feedback Sought on Jury Questionnaire

Two committees have been formed to examine and possibly revise the jury questionnaire used in Marion County. The objective of this effort is to update the questionnaire, streamline how information is obtained and more effectively aid litigators in jury selection. Show Your Support for Diversity

Celebrate the IndyBar’s commitment to diversity at the Diversity & the Law Luncheon on Friday, August 20 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency. Members of the Indianapolis legal community are encouraged to attend to mingle with law students from across the country attending the job fair and to demonstrate the value placed on diversity in the city. Attorneys are also welcome to invite corporate clients to show their support of local diversity initiatives. The luncheon will feature former Indianapolis mayor Bart Peterson as the keynote speaker. Fall Applied Professionalism Course Offered

Thinking ahead about end of year CLE credit requirements? New attorneys must complete the six hour Applied Professionalism Course within their first three-year educational cycle, and the IBA has just the course, offered on Friday, October 29. Registration is available online at www.indybar.org.

The IBA Professionalism Committee is currently soliciting nominations for the 2010 IBA Professionalism Award (Attorney) and IBA Silver Gavel Award (Judge). Nominations are due Thursday, August 5. Registration Now Open for Las Vegas CLE Getaway

Two Hour Volunteer Opportunity

Ask a Lawyer, the Indianapolis Bar Association’s free legal advice program with the Indianapolis Marion County Public Library, is in need of volunteers for its October 12, 2010 session. Attorneys are needed to staff the following Marion County Library locations from 2-4 p.m. or 4-6 p.m.: Brightwood, East Washington, East 38th Street, Shelby, and Southport.
