Registrations for the 15th annual GAL/CASA statewide conference must by postmarked by Sept. 26. The event is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Indianapolis Marriott East, 7202 E. 21st St., Indianapolis.

The keynote speaker is Naomi Haines Griffith, a nationally known storyteller and family systems specialist. She is the author of “Red Clay and Vinegar: Looking at Family through the Eyes of a Southern Child,” and co-authored “The Unkindest Cut – The Emotional Maltreatment of Children.” She is also a former board member of the Alabama Children’s Trust Fund and has worked as a consultant to and trainer for Prevent Child Abuse America.

The daylong event will cover several topics, including advocacy for foster children with special needs, education and training vouchers for older youth, and post-traumatic stress syndrome.

Nominations for the 2011 GAL/CASA volunteer and program director of the year must also be postmarked by Sept. 26. Nomination and event registration information is available on the GAL/CASA website at http://www.in.gov/judiciary/galcasa/.
