The Indiana Department of Child Services has won one of four Casey Family Programs “Excellence in Leadership” awards for 2011. The award is given to those involved in child welfare who work to improve the lives of children and families.

The state agency says it received the honor because of its improved outcomes by safely decreasing the number of children in foster and congregate care and increasing the number of children in care who achieve permanency.

The awards will be presented at the Casey Family Programs annual meeting later in January in Seattle. The organization is the country’s largest operating foundation focused solely on foster care and improving the child welfare system.
