Indiana Chief Justice Brent Dickson has appointed Justice Mark Massa chairman of the St. Joseph Superior Court Judicial Nominating Commission. Massa is filling the vacancy left by former Justice Frank Sullivan, who recently left the bench to teach.

Vacancies on the St. Joseph Superior Court are filled through a nominating process. The commission consists of seven members who review all applications for vacancies on the court. The Indiana chief justice is responsible for appointing a member of either the Indiana Supreme Court or Court of Appeals. The commission also consists of three attorneys who reside or work in St. Joseph County, who are elected by other county attorneys, and three non-attorney residents of the county. The non-attorney residents are selected by a committee.

The appointment will remain in effect until a successor is appointed, the Aug. 29 order states.
