Changes coming to prosecuting attorneys retirement fund

On Tuesday, Gov. Mike Pence signed into law HEA 1057, which will alter the prosecuting attorneys retirement fund to incorporate several features that are found in the 1985 judges’ retirement system.

Some of the changes include the manner in which a participant’s eligibility for permanent disability benefits is determined and allowing a participant to designate his or her children to receive a survivor’s benefit.

The introduced version of the bill was prepared by the Pension Management Oversight Commission.

Pence also signed Senate Enrolled Acts 224 and 225, which outline the appointment of delegates and their duties regarding an Article V convention. Senate President Pro Tem David Long, R-Fort Wayne, introduced the legislation this session as a way to attempt to curb the federal government’s use of the commerce clause and taxing powers.

Pence signed 41 bills on Tuesday. Dozens of enrolled acts await his signature, including HEA 1393 on judicial technology and automation. The governor signed the budget bill Wednesday in Crawfordsville.
