The 2014 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week will commemorate the 30th anniversary of the passage of the Victims of Crime Act of 1984, a law that provides support services and compensation for crime victims.
Each April, the Office for Victims of Crime sponsors National Crime Victims’ Rights Week to promote victims’ rights and to honor crime victims as well as their advocates. This year, NCVRW will be observed April 6 through 12 with the theme, “30 Years: Restoring the Balance of Justice,” to herald the Victims of Crime Act.
The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office has planned several events for the week. Prosecutor Michael Dvorak will be among the speakers at the S-O-S (rape crisis center) of the Family Justice Center’s 12th annual Take Back the Night March on April 10. Also, the prosecutor’s office will join the St. Joseph County Police Department to host a free self-defense workshop on April 12.
